flying without a compass

I am not a politician and though i am completely ill at ease with the way things are in Nigeria, i try not to discuss Nigeria because it turns my stomach upside down and i end up being really really upset. But this presidential sickness has become one issue too many that we have to deal with. And the way people are sensationalising the issue! Some people say we should not talk about the president's sickness. We should just pray. There is a time to pray and there is a time to recognise reality. Some people say that the constitution does not allow for a president that will not get sick. His sickness is not the problem. It is this hide and seek game that the powers that be are playing with the rest of us Nigerians who cannot go to Saudi to see him and ask him some questions. When Mr. President decided to become a president, he kissed a large portion of his private life, including sickness, goodbye. What business does any one in public office have asking for private life especially when that private life is at the expense of the masses.

As if things could not get worse, after we have been running around like a headless horse, Mr. President finally addressed BBC. There must be a good reason and excellent rational behind speaking on BBC but since i am neither a politician nor a political analyst, i need some help to be able to see the reason and rationale.

Note, he did not speak to NTA!! Okay so maybe he needed to reach a wider audience but his primary concern at this time should be Nigerians who voted? him into power and to whom he is answerable. Did anyone in BBC take part in the election that brought him to power? We elected him and methinks, we deserve to be addressed directly. That is the least he could have done for us. What about those who

  1. Why didn't the president speak to us through Nigerian Television Authority? Why don't we have a video broadcast. Nigerians are more intelligent than what Yaradua and his cabinet are taking us to be. Presidency is not a family office. He should hand over now.

  2. This interview is a classic from Nollywood, well produced by the sycophants in the corridors of Aso Rock, but the most important question was not asked which is - WHY DIDNT MR PRESIDENT HAND OVER EXECUTIVE POWERS TO HIS DEPUTY?

  3. The purpoted interview only succeeded in opening Nigeria up to the whole world in yet another embarrassing way. The level on insincerity even in critical issues like this is aweful. And until the power of love (for fellow human beings) exceeds the love of power, I'm afraid, we will not have peace and good governance in Nigeria. Mark my words!
